He also made some contribution to the development of his country's army, as evidenced by the creation of a military academy for future officers in 1805. The main type of armed force of the Württemberg army was its infantry, which was considered one of the best in Germany and followed French patterns in many fields. In 1806, the line infantry regiment consisted of two battalions, each of them divided into 4 companies: one grenadier and three musketeers. Each company consisted of 175 full-time employees. Light infantry battalions also had 4 companies in line, as did the elite Foot Guard Battalion. Württemberg light infantry units were considered to be one of the best in Europe at the time - they were famous for their very good shooting training, high morale and high level of discipline. The armies of Württemberg supported Napoleon in the course of the campaigns of 1809 and 1812. However, after the battle of Leipzig, Frederick I went to the side of the allies.
