USS Hawaii (CB-3) was to be originally an American so-called a large cruiser or (according to other classifications) a linear cruiser, the keel of which was laid in December 1943 and launched in November 1945. The unit, however, never officially entered the US Navy's line service. At the time of launching, the ship's length was 246.4 m, width was 27.8 m, and her full displacement was about 34,200 tons. The top speed of the USS Hawaii could reach 32 knots. The main armament was to be 9 305 mm guns in three turrets of three cannons each, and the secondary armament was mainly 12 127 mm guns.

USS Hawaii (CB-3) was to be the third of the Alaska-class ships. The main task of units of this type was to fight heavy Japanese cruisers, over which they were clearly superior in terms of firepower. Great importance was also attached to the maximum speed - it was to allow free operation within teams with fast aircraft carriers of the Essex fleet. However, due to the clear domination of on-board aviation in the operations in the Pacific, it was decided to launch only two of the six ships of this type. USS Hawaii (CB-3) was never completed and was placed in reserve almost immediately after launch. In the 1940s and 1950s, there were plans to convert it into a missile ship or a large command ship, but these plans were never implemented. Ultimately, in 1958, the ship was removed from the fleet list, and in 1959, she was sold for scrap.
