The UB-16 is a Soviet, and currently Russian, 57mm unguided missile launcher. The presented launcher was designed to carry S-5 missiles and is capable of carrying 16 such missiles. Originally, these missiles were carried by Soviet planes and helicopters in ORO-57 launchers, but in the early 1960s they were replaced by UB-16 launchers. It is also worth adding that several different development versions of this launcher were developed relatively quickly, which made it one of the most widely used launchers of this type in the Soviet armed forces. Among these variants of the launcher we can mention, for example: UB-16-57U, UB-16-57D or UB-16-57UMP (it entered service in 1968 and was one of the most frequently produced variants). Launchers of this type could be carried by many Soviet aircraft, such as the Mi-8, Mi-24, but also MiG-19 or MiG-23. Launchers of this type were used on a large scale during the initial phase of the war in Afghanistan (1979-1989).
The UB-32 is a Soviet, and now Russian, 57mm unguided missile launcher from the Cold War and modern times. The presented launcher was developed primarily for carrying S-5 missiles and is capable of carrying 32 such missiles. The launcher is 208 cm long with a total diameter of 46.4 cm. The weight of the empty launcher is 103 kg, and when loaded it reaches 265 kg. The presented launcher entered service in the Soviet armed forces in the 1970s as a supplement to the UB-16 launcher, dedicated to the same family of unguided missiles. Compared to the UB-16, the UB-32 launcher was obviously heavier, able to take twice as many missiles, but also improved reliability. In the armed forces of the USSR and the Russian Federation, it was or is used on such aircraft as: Mi-17, Mi-24, MiG-21, MiG-23, Su-7 or Su-25. Launchers of this type were used in combat in the initial phase of the war in Afghanistan (1979-1989), but their use is also certified during the civil wars in Libya and Syria, which have been going on since 2011. In both countries, launchers were most often used on vans.
