Bute is a contemporary British passenger and car ferry, which was built in the Polish Northern Shipyard in Gdañsk. The launch of the vessel took place in February 2005. The total length of the vessel is 72.1 meters and the width is 15.3 meters. The maximum speed shall not exceed 14 knots. The ship can take up to 450 passengers and 60 cars on board. The Bute ferry was built for the Scottish shipowner Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) to replace the Saturn ferry on the Wemyss Bay-Rothessay route. The unit is able to transport both passenger cars and trucks, and their loading and unloading takes place through three ramps. It is worth adding that the ferry - although it operates on a very local route - has a very modern drive, based on propellers, which have been placed both at the bow and at the stern, which fantastically increases the maneuverability and controllability of the unit. Placing an order by the shipowner CalMac for the construction of the Bute ferry in a Polish shipyard caused a number of protests in Scotland, which, however, did not change the location of the ferry's construction.
