Bronco NB5002 'Kang Ding' Class Frigate

Kang Ding is the name of a class of Taiwanese missile frigates of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The first unit of this class was launched in the early 1990s. Until now, 6 units of this type have been built. The full displacement of this class of vessels is approximately 3,500-3,600 tons, 125 m long and 15.4 m wide. The maximum speed is up to 25 knots. The Kang Ding class ships are armed with, among other things: a single 76 mm gun or Hsiung-Feng II rocket launchers. A Sikorsky S-70 helicopter can be based on their decks of this class of ships. The Kang Ding-class frigates are in fact a development of the French La Fayette-class frigates. Thus, they have stealth properties, thanks to the appropriate architecture of superstructures and hull, and the use of materials that absorb radar radiation. They were also primarily adapted to combat underwater and surface targets. However, they had quite a clearly limited ability to counter air targets, and the anti-aircraft defense system (until 2017) was the outdated Chapparal system. They also differ from their French prototypes in terms of electronic equipment and the water-water missile system used.
