Trumpeter 00327 JGSDF Type 87 Recon Vehicle

The Type 87 ARV is a contemporary Japanese wheeled reconnaissance vehicle. The first prototypes of the car were developed in the early 1980s, and serial production started in 1987 and probably lasted until 2013. It is estimated that there are currently around 100 Type 87 ARVs in the line. The drive is provided by a single motor Isuzu 10PBI with 305 hp. It is armed with a single 25mm Oerlikon KBA automatic cannon and one 7.62mm machine gun.

The Type 87 ARV reconnaissance vehicle was developed by the Komatsu concern at the request of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, based on the successful Type 82 command vehicle. The new vehicle took over from its predecessor the general structure of the hull and suspension. However, the hull roof changed and a turret with the main armament was added. The hull itself was also modernized. The vehicle's cover is provided by steel armor, providing protection against small arms and artillery shells. The Type 87 ARV is characterized by good maneuverability and limited ability to negotiate water obstacles. The vehicle also has good electronic equipment and a battlefield management system. The only user of this type of vehicle is the Japanese Self-Defense Forces.
