WAK 09-2010 Działo Samobieżne SU-57

The SU-57 (other designation: T3) was a Soviet self-propelled gun classified as a tank destroyer of US production during the Second World War. The vehicle was powered by a single 148hp White 160AX carburettor engine. It was armed with a single 57mm M1 anti-tank gun.

The T3 vehicle was developed on the chassis of the M3 half-track transporter by mounting a 57 mm gun in the landing compartment. The first prototypes of the vehicle were made in 1942, and production was carried out only in 1943. In total, about 950 vehicles were built. A significant part of them (over 650 cars) was sent to Great Britain. However, the British concluded that the gun used by the vehicle no longer met the requirements of the battlefield, and as part of the Lend-and-Lease program, they sent them in large numbers to the Soviet Union, where they served under the designation SU-57. A certain number of them also served in the Polish People's Army. They were withdrawn from service in the late 1950s.
