Osaka Castle is called the Golden Castle or the Glitter Castle, which was built between 1583-1598. The building is built on two artificial embankments made of earth and stone, and is finally surrounded by a moat. The building also has a very high foundation. The main building has a total of 8 floors. The initiator of the construction of the present castle in Osaka was Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who decided to erect the building on the site of a Buddhist temple-fortress. Shortly after its construction, the fortress played an important role in the process of unifying Japan by the shogun Hidetat Tokugawa. During its history, the castle has undergone four major reconstructions, in the years: 1620, 1843, 1928 and 1995-1997. The current version of the castle is only - or even - its exact copy of the 16th-17th centuries and was built largely of concrete, at the expense of the Osaka city authorities. Despite this, Osaka Castle is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Japan, and the facilities located in its vicinity are considered to be the government of Tokyo as particularly culturally valuable.
