The BetAB-500 was a Soviet (and is now Russian) airborne anti-concrete bomb from the Cold War period. The length of the bomb was 223 cm with a diameter of 350 millimeters. The curb weight was 477 kg, and the mass of the explosive was 75.5 kg. BetAB-500 is designed to destroy all types of fortifications of the enemy, his command posts, ammunition depots, but also reinforced hangars, roads and highways. The bomb was equipped with a braking parachute that curves its descent path, which significantly increases its accuracy, as well as a small rocket engine that increases the descent speed and the kinetic energy of the impact. The bomb has a delayed fuse. After the collapse of the USSR, a modernized version was created, designated BetAB-500U, with increased weight and size and improved penetration capabilities. It is assumed that the BetAB-500 bomb was used in the Syrian civil war that broke out in 2011. It was almost certainly used in the Battle of Aleppo in 2016.
