Nationality markings (hereinafter: insignia) on Czechoslovak air force planes began to be used almost immediately after the country's independence, the proclamation of which was announced on October 28, 1918. From the very beginning, the flight insignia of the Czechoslovak Air Force took the form of a circle (French roundelle, called roundel) with red, blue and white colors. Initially, however, these colors were arranged in strictly adjacent circles, the circle of which the largest diameter was red. From 1921 or 1922, the so-called the roundelle, which is a color-retained reflection of the Czechoslovak state flag, but arranged in three congruent boxes, not in circles. This insignia has survived in virtually unchanged form in the Czech air force (part Vzdusne forces of Armada Ceske republiky ). A minor change concerned the use of a white border surrounding the entire emblem. It is worth noting that this insignia was also used during World War II by Czech and Slovak pilots flying in the RAF service, and it was then painted right next to the cockpit fairing. Interestingly, they were also preserved after 1945 Czechoslovak air force.
