The Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone was an American WWII and post-war aero engine manufactured by Wright Aeronautical. It was first tested in May 1937. The engine - in the R-3350-C18-BA version - weighed 1,212 kilograms with a displacement of 55 liters. It is recognized as one of the most powerful and successful aircraft engines of the Second World War.

The Wright R-3350 was an 18-cylinder air-cooled double star radial engine. The engine is based on the successful R-1820 engine produced by Wright. Compared to its predecessor, it differed primarily in the use of a double star system, not a single star, as well as - inevitably - an increase in mass and cylinder capacity. He also received a turbocharger. It turned out to be a successful engine, with enormous maximum power, especially in comparison with other aircraft engines of that time. Wright R-3350, however, was constantly improved and in subsequent versions it achieved higher and higher maximum powers, for example: R-3350-23 had a power of 2200 HP, the R-3350-26W model - already 2800 HP, and in the R-3350-93W version it reached up to 3,500 KM! The Wright R-3350 engine served as a power unit for several successful American aircraft of the Second World War. It drove such machines as, for example: Grumman F8F Bearcat or B-29 Superfortress. It also served as a drive for post-war airplanes, such as: Douglas A-1 Skyraider, EC-121 Warning Star or Lockheed Constellation passenger plane.
